sick & tired...

we are all sick with various maladies at the moment. Not 'stay in bed moaning' sick but 'life is just hard work' sick. You name it and we've probably got it in the house at the moment - coughs, runny noses, teething, mastitis, sore back, vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea - its not fun.

It makes me reflect on the wisdom of our choice to move halfway across the world, leaving our families and their very capable, helpful, just a 2 minute walk (my mum & sis) or 10 minute drive (danny's parents) away selves.

Really, what were we thinking?

Danny is currently on the couch behind me resting while the kids are down for their midday sleep. What's wrong with this picture? It's a Monday and Danny never ever stops work unless its a pretty serious sickness. In fact, in our whole married life I can't remember more than a handful of times that he has stayed home. It does help that the couch is a grand total of 10 steps away from his desk but I also think that we are both just so worn out from caring for difficult sick kids there is not much left to fight whats going around ourselves.

I have been loading us up with homeopathic remedies which seems to be keeping us afloat but really, it's not much fun.

So if anyone has "been there, done that" living away from family when you could really use some help, let me know if you have any tips or suggestions of ways we could get through this little speed bump in the adventure.

  1. Make the effort to go to the library and get a few new DVD's, some for the kids and some for you. And now make the TV your new best friend. Use it and don't feel guilty about it. It is short term and you can get your routine back later. Forget all house work. Cook the easiest meals you possible can - and double them if possible so you don't have to cook every night.
Remember that you need to take panadol too. I was always good at giving the kids what they needed but always forgot about myself and that really doesn't help, anyone!

  2. Ains said it all Al!!! Whatever it takes to get bodies rested and recuperating and most importantly don't forget to dose yourself up and get some rest too. Glad that Danny can be around to tag team with you tending to sick little people! Hope you all get a lot better really quick. Love Jen
